Doce Pares Scholarship Program
It was a dream, an obsession and a feeling of "non-fulfillment" that spurred the officers of Doce Pares to do something that could not just alleviate the problems of the less privileged members but also to afford them or their dependents the opportunity for a college education. They were all aware and in fact very proud of the success of Doce Pares, and that its the biggest name in the Filipino martial art, winning tournaments and all, and considered one of the best, if not the “best” Eskrima-Arnis styles or systems in the world. But they felt there was something lacking, there was no sense of fulfillment.
Thus, with the support of all the Senior Blackbelts and Grandmasters, Arnulfo “Dong” Cuesta, Fred Bandalan, Steve Wolk, and Don Edwards, among others in the year of 2001, in a resolution sponsored by SGM Dionisio “Diony” Cañete, the Doce Pares Scholarship Program was established.
In the beginning, there were only two or three scholars but as the number of donors/sponsors increased, the number of scholars have also increased, that in 2015 – 2016 school year, it reached a total of 11 scholars, 6 college students and 5 high school students
The program has changed the lives not only that of our scholars but also their families as after graduation they found/landed in good jobs. Some are teachers while others who graduated from Marine courses worked in foreign countries.
